Soldout – The Cut

Soldout are Cassandra and David, a couple of tremendously nice-looking Belgians who have just released their sophomore album, Cuts, on Anorak Supersport. It’s the combination of two distinct personalities within their sassy synth-pop aesthetic – the gorgeously dark with a hint of psychaedelia, and the twitchy CSS-like dance-inducer – that make this album a total keeper

Imogen Heap ‘Ellipse’ press shot by Jeremy Cowart
An Alanis Morrisette for the digital generation with 40m plays on Myspace, Imogen Heap has so far left the mainstream music charts untroubled. But things are set to change with this third album. Grand cellos and choral sighs are layered against electro bleeps and Heap’s percussive voice that moves from soft lilt to glottal stop. Found sounds – from a crackling fire to running water in a shower – are sculpted by Heap into complex soundscapes. The symphonic wash of these compositions could be dismissed as background music, but her inventive writing and varied voice demand otherwise. (via:guardian.co.uk)
